Building la Nouvelle Generation Program
As part of the GMLLEN’s role of working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, the ‘Building la Nouvelle Generation Program- meaning building a new generation, is a leadership program that was created to help young African people have a smooth tranistion into community life. The program was an idea that was formed after members of the local african community approached the GMLLEN, wanting to devise a program that would help their young people fit into community life, as well as enabling them to embarace their african heritage.
The program was made up of a range of workshops that were hosted by the following agencies and individuals:
- Shepparton Police
- GV Health
- Centrelink
- Parks Victoria / River Connect
- Art with Dean McPherson (local artist)
Building la Nouvelle, had strong community support and would not have been successful without the support and commitment of the follwing organisations and individuals"
- Berry Street
- Uniting Care Cutting Edge (U.C.C.E)
- St Brendan's Parish Pastoral Council
- St Vincent De Paul Migrant and Refugee Council
- City of Greater Shepparton
- Parks Victoria / River Connect
- KFC
- La Porchetta Shepparton
- Tassoni Orchards
The program was a success, and saw 20 Congolese and Sudenese people graduate in a ceremony attend by friends and family.
We would like to thank all organisations involved, as without them the program would not have been such a success!
