Berry Street is about to undertake a project with Indigenous Youth to photograph the local Indigenous Elders.  The aim is to take on young people aged 16-20 who are on the fringe of their Indigenous culture and engage them in this project that has the support of the Shepparton River Connect Project and the Elders group.  We plan to incorporate input from some of the Elders to do workshops with the young people around traditional skills whilst the same young people work with Rick Connors (Photographer) learning the skills necessary to create high quality portraits of the Elders which will culminate in 2 public exhibitions in Shepparton and Melbourne. We envisage that the young people who participate will not only gain a greater understanding of their culture but also complete their Certificate II in Visual Arts offering them the opportunity to purse further study in the arts.
