About the NYSS Research Project
|
|
Mission Australia, in partnership with the Goldfields Local Learning and Employment Network (GLLEN) and the Goulburn Murray Local Learning and Employment Network (GMLLEN), is undertaking research that involves tracking the pathways of young people to employment, education and/or training in Maryborough and Shepparton. This project aims to gain insight into the concerns of young people in regional areas and, using those insights, to develop interventions that will enhance participation in community and access to education, training and employment. The project is funded by a grant from the Collie Foundation which is managed by ANZ Trustees.

About the NYSS Research Project
|
|

The Goulburn Murray Local Learning and Employment Network works in the context of Government policy that has the specific objectives of
Ensuring 90 per cent of young people in Victoria successfully complete Year 12 or its equivalent by 2010
Ensuring the percentage of young people 15-19 in rural and regional Victoria engaged in education and training rises by 6 percent by 2005
The Goulburn Murray Local Learning & Employment Network [or GMLLEN] is an independent not-for-profit community based organisation designed to work across all government, business and community sectors to improve the education and employment outcomes for people in the 15-24 age group.
The Goulburn Murray Local Learning and Employment Network Inc. was incorporated in May 2001. Its Australian Business Number is : 82 259 471 365 .
31 LLEN's were established by the Victorian Government in 2001. The LLEN model replicates international best practice models. That is, cross sectoral networks or partnerships responsible for local decision-making, local solutions and local funding. England, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Austria and France have initiated various models of partnership to address educational, social and economic disadvantage.
We say we are: “Connecting Kids for Life”
A conservative estimate is that in one year the GMLLEN interacts in significant ways with 6000 people, in forums, meetings, and networks.. Approximately 180 groups or organisations engage with the GMLLEN in planning the development of both small and large education and training programs annually.
Our focus is on those groups most at risk in the community.
Indigenous education
Education for refugee and new settler groups
Looking at career opportunities in industries that have skill shortages and need young people.
